18 Month Letter

Dearest Ria,

So, I’m no longer a parent of an 18 month old anymore, how scary!
Its been another exciting, busy and fun filled month for you. The internet was down all last week so I’m finally getting the chance now to piece your happenings together.

Easter snuck up on us faster than we anticipated. Mummy had planned to order you some nice chocolate eggs and have some pictures done, and the next minute it was Easter! We had a lovely lunch with your friends Taylor, Ruby and Lola. There was face painting, balloon making & lots of chocolate. You got some lovely things and afterward, mummy and daddy took you to the store to pick out something special just for you. You chose a kiddy laptop and a chair which was the best choice you could have made, now you don’t mess around with mine!

Daddy has been doing a lot of traveling for work lately and I know you miss him as much as I do. Its just not the same when he’s gone but he always thinks of you and brings you back something special. This last trip he saved up some money and we bought you a Chicco kitchen. The hot plates light up and sizzle and there’s a fridge, oven, grill & much more. You’ve been making me coffee, eggs and tomato a lot lately and we have our own little tea parties.

You completely floored me when I was trying to teach you numbers last week. As I was going through 1, 2, 3 & 4, you came out with “5, 6, 7, 8!”. Mummy nearly had a coronary! You’re much too clever for your own good, how can you only be one and a half? You’re speaking 3 word sentences now and you’re very insistent with what you want. You can have telephone conversations, you’re forever pointing out all the parts of the body and you know the names too, very impressive if I do say so myself.

For 2 weeks you had some really rough going with sleeping, mummy was a walking zombie. You’d wake up several times a night and at 6am for the day, which isn’t like you at all. I came to find out that the doorbell was being pressed for garbage collection at 6:30 every morning which was waking you up, so now that’s sorted and you’re back to being a good sleeper again, phew!

Now, its time to explain to you about the scar that is on your nose. By the time you read this, you’ll probably have thought or asked me what its all about. Well, here it is…
You were having a great time playing outside with your bubbles and you went crashing into Neo’s crate. Daddy rushed you inside to me but because you were eating strawberries earlier and you’re such a messy girl, that and the fact that any time away from me makes you bawl your little eyes out, I didn’t think much of it at first until I noticed it wasn’t strawberries on your nose at all.

I cleaned it all up and it looked pretty nasty so we took you to the Rainbow Children’s Hospital to have it checked out and to see if you needed a tetanus injection. You were sent straight to the ER because it was bleeding quite a bit and they cleaned it all up for you. The doctor told us it would scar which broke our hearts, but you were good to go.

Now that its healed there is a visible purple nick on the bridge of your nose but hopefully with some Mederma it will fade out.

On April 24th, it was mummy & daddy’s 3rd wedding anniversary! You helped daddy in the kitchen with making eggs, toast, hash browns and brownies. It was all very yummy and filling.

I love you so much baby Ria. I hope you can manage to keep some of your little baby ways just for a while longer.

Lots of love,
Renee
