9 month letter
June 28th, 2006 at 7:14 pm (Ria Emily, Monthly Letters)
Ria Emily,
You’re now in the last ¼ of your first year. You had your check up at the start of the month. You were a healthy 18 lbs (8.1kgs / 46th percentile) and 27 inches long (69.5 cms / 44th percentile). Dr Michael was so impressed by all the things you can do, and pointed out that you’re a little girl now! And you really are, you’ve grown up so much recently. Every day your face looks a little more mature and you’re getting to be so independent. But with your independence you also have become more cuddly which we just can’t get enough of.
You surprised me a day after your 8th month by repeating “all done” when I finished giving you your manicure. You’ll say it when you want to, of course, but that’s the way you have always been.
4 more teeth popped through. 2 in the middle at the top, and 2 either side of your little bunny teeth at the bottom. You’ve been a great teether this time around, I barely noticed you had them!
Since you started cruising, you have gotten a lot more balance. You can stand for a few seconds on your own and you can graciously plop your little bottom back on the floor when you want to sit back down.
We can do so many more girly things now that you’re growing up. Mummy mastered putting your hair up in pigtails properly, and now you look so much like Boo from Monsters Inc with your two tiny little tufts flying in the air. Everybody comments on how gorgeous you are and they’re no longer referring to you as a little boy! I don’t know why they did in the first place since you’ve always looked quite the girly girl, but this was the finishing touch.
You had your very first night away from us as well. It was very strange to not hear you up at night. You were with your Dadima and you did great. The mobile in your crib had to go since you’re climbing everywhere now and it seems so empty! We chose the mobile when mummy was pregnant all that time ago, and it was the first thing to go on your crib when it arrived.
Daddy celebrated his 25th birthday on the 13th. We had a great day out at lunch and playing on the rides at Eat Street, the same place you had your first ride in the Tea Cup Ride. We got him a PSP, and you’re his background on there of course.
We found out that you can play nice with others when you were on your first play date with Sanjay. We were worried at first since you love all your toys and you’re not so willing to share them with grown-ups, but you did great. You didn’t like the grass at all though, and here we were thinking you’d love to feel something new! You were such a good girl.
On a sad note, you hit your head hard for the first time. Since you’ve turned into such a little monkey you seem to forget not everything is good for climbing on, and you slipped. It was heartbreaking for you and mummy. A little while later you were back to your old self but if you have your own babies someday, you’ll understand why mummy was quite shaken up for a long time after.
I don’t know why all of a sudden you are opposed to hats. You loved hats, mummy loved the hats on you, as did daddy. I hope you like them again soon, it was so much fun picking them out and they suit you so well.
And last but not least, today you learned how to throw the ball to us. You’ll be kicking it around the yard in no time while we cheer you on. You point to everything you like with your index finger and won’t let us eat a single bite of anything while you’re around without us sharing.
Happy 9 months baby girl
Love Always,
Mummy
